Nasi Lemak Combo with Mackeral Otah

The first dish that comes to my mind whenever somebody mentions Malay food to me – Nasi Lemak! I think everyone would agree on the 3 most crucial components when it comes to Nasi Lemak and that would be the rice, chilli and Otah. I wasn’t exactly blown away by this box of Nasi Lemak as I felt it tasted like a typical plate of Nasi Lemak. Don’t get me wrong, it was a good box of Nasi Lemak but I felt it could’ve been even better if the rice was more ‘lemak’.
Despite that, I thought the right ratio of fish to flour was used in the Mackeral Otah and it tasted really good! What caught me off-guard was that the Otah actually brought in some kick of a spice which I felt was quite rare in many Otahs out there.

Laksa with Gravy

A basic noodle dish with prawns, fishcakes and beansprouts. Scoop over some spicy curry coconut milk broth and it’s good to go. The curry coconut broth boasts savoury milky flavour and a very mild coconutty fragrance. It is seasoned with the right amount of flavours such that it complements the bland noodles and beansprouts really well! Though the chilli was a little of a let-down (I’m a spicy-food lover!) because I expected it to be spicy, I still savoured this tantalizing dish!

Bread and Butter Pudding

I’ve heard of many who highly rave about bread and butter pudding, but I never really got the chance to come try it. This was my first time trying and I have to say, I was cynical at first. Bread as a dessert? It didn’t sound appealing to me at all, but my doubts proved to be unfounded.
The pudding sauce was thick, custardy and creamy while the bread was soft on the inside, golden and buttery on top – seemed like a classic comfort dish. The dish gave off a whiff of cinnamon which went perfectly with the sweet raisins, apricot and the milky pudding sauce. It was indeed the ultimate combination!

Assorted Canapes

I would describe these canapes to be “salad in a cup” – you get the ingredients that you would see in a typical salad (just that it’s in a miniature form). An appetiser that comes in various colours, ingredients, flavours and aesthetically placed in a tray. How dainty! One thing for sure though; you can never go wrong with these veggies and sauces so you can rest assured to have these for any occasions! All the more so because they come conveniently placed in mini cups and spoons, which makes having a starter before having a heavy meal easy and fuss-free!

Assorted Bruschetta

A small-sized entrée that comes with 3 different kinds of toppings – eggplants, mushroom and tomatoes. Garnished with rocket leaves and fresh peppers, it elevated the flavours of the bruschetta and made this a very flavourful dish. These bruschettas were simply just delicious and fresh tasting, each ingredient added their own unique flavour to the simple and plain baguette base which made a great combination! Filled with full of textures yet still a light-hearted dish, these bruschettas would certainly make a fairly healthy first course for all!
