The Orange Lantern Gourmet Kitchen has kindly sent us their Mother’s Day Carnation menu for us to try, and here are the 9 courses we chose to try out:

Assorted Maki Roll

The assorted Maki rolls were plated very nicely in a circle, with 2 different types of Maki rolls – the California-style roll and the basic Maki roll. The Maki rolls are neatly wrapped in nori (Japanese seaweed) and contains veggies and crab sticks. This is a simple starter to get your taste buds running before getting to the main dishes!

On the other hand, the California-style rolls are generously coated with toasted sesame seeds. The roll itself also contains shrimp tempura which I really liked, being a fan of shrimp and all things seafood!

Butter Rice with Raisins

Switch things up from the everyday steamed white rice, to this aromatic Butter rice with raisins as your main course! A simple yet heart-warming main course, the buttery taste in this dish is mild yet pleasant to have with the other dishes.

Chipolata Sausages with Onions

These Chipolata Sausages are so easy to devour – with its small size and addictive salty & peppery taste that’s not too strong in flavour. The onions also added a pleasant aroma to this dish which I enjoyed! These sausages are also juicy, which pairs so well when you have it with their main course, the Butter rice.

Pan Seared Fish with Japanese Soya Sauce

A chef recommended dish; the Pan Seared Fish with Japanese Soya Sauce definitely made it to my personal top few dishes of this menu! The Japanese soya sauce lent the tender fish fillets its salty flavour; the taste evident in every bite yet not overpowering. The slices of ginger used also contributed to the fragrance of this dish, which I could immediately smell when I took the cover lid off! Soft and boneless, this fish dish is also suitable for the young and old alike.

Sautéed Broccoli and Cauliflower with Carrots

The Sautéed Broccoli and Cauliflower with carrot was a delectable variety of fresh vegetables. Effortless and healthy, this dish is not too oily. The vegetables were also cooked thoroughly yet not overcooked, which I appreciated as personally, I’m not a big fan of my vegetables being too soft. Overall, this is a satisfactory dish.

Baked Chicken with Mushroom Sauce

The Baked Chicken with Mushroom sauce was flavourful and savoury in taste, with additional ingredients such as capsicum to add bite to the dish. The chicken meat was tender, but I felt that it could’ve been a tad juicier! This dish reminds me of when my mother cooks dinner for the family after having a long day – it’s warm and comforting. 😊

Garlic Prawn with Celery and Capsicum

A colourful plethora of succulent prawns, crunchy capsicums, celery and mushrooms, I enjoyed having this dish. It was fresh and tasted healthy, which is always favourable!

The taste of garlic in this dish was very mild, making it an apt dish for anyone who isn’t the biggest fan of garlic. Overall, this dish was milder in terms of flavour but yet still a delight to have alongside the other dishes!

Assorted Pastry

Did somebody say cake? With an assortment of 2 different types of pastry, this platter is hard to miss! The little cakes were drool worthy, without being overly sweet and definitely not surfeiting because of its miniature size.

In my opinion, these bite-sized pieces of assorted pastry are such a joy to have at the end of a meal!

Fruit Punch

Last but not least of the 9 courses in the Carnation menu, is the beverage. Needing no introduction, we chose to have their fruit punch as it was a refreshing choice to have in Singapore’s hot weather!
