4 Vegetables that you can easily grow in your balcony!

4 Vegetables that you can easily grow in your balcony!

More than 90% of the food we have in Singapore are imported from other countries. Which means we are vulnerable to food shortages and inflation all while relying on the produce of other countries.

Well, we can do our tiny part and bring that farmer in ourselves out! It’s always more satisfying consuming food that we have made ourselves isn’t it? More so if we grow our own crops and harvest them from start till end!

Here are 4 vegetables that you can easily grow in the comfort of your own house!

#1 Sweet Potato Leaves

These leaves can grow well even in poor soil. You just need to ensure that there is sufficient aeration in the soil and water and the weather in Singapore will do the rest! And if you don’t already know what these leaves are, they are the same leaves as the one you order at any “zi char” stall and normally with sambal! Chinese called it “Fan Shu Ye”! Time needed: 21 – 30 days

#2 Spring Onions

There are actually different types of spring onions. So, make sure you know what you have chosen before planting them! And rest assured that spring onions thrived in hot weather! Now you’ll have that unlimited garnish for your dishes! Time taken to grow is only 5-7 days!

#3 KaiLan (Chinese Kale)

This plant grows well in warm environment! Best thing is, they can be harvested multiple times! Leave the main stalk in the pot and harvest only the leaves when its ready, and the leaves will grow back quickly and you’ll have fresh supplies! YUMS! Time needed: 60-70 days.

#4 Baby Bak Choy

Waa, you can use your home-grown baby bak choy for your next steamboat with your family! It’s easy to grow as long as you put it in a spot with at least 6 hours of sunlight daily! Takes about 40-45 days to harvest.

Growing your own plant can train your patience and it is not that difficult after all! Just a little time and effort and you’ll have different crops for dinner every day! Best thing is you’ll know what you put into your tummy!

Try growing yours today!

I mean we can grow vegetables but we can't certainly rear animals in our house so, order your meat dishes from FoodLine.sg to go with your fresh vegetables today!
