5 Health Foods That Are Actually Bad for You

5 Health Foods That Are Actually Bad for You

When you finally want to live a healthier lifestyle and start eating more greens, more often than not you’ll reach out to that delicious bottle of salad dressing because eating ‘em greens plain sounds disgusting. Trust me, I totally feel you, but did you know that many ‘healthy’ foods out there that are advocates for weight loss or ‘healthier-options’ are actually just foods full of sugar in disguise? Here are 5 of them that you should look out for if you’re serious about that healthy diet!

It’s no surprise that when it says low fat, the lack of fat has to be replaced by something else to retain its taste and in this case, it’s sugar, high fructose corn syrup, salt, additives, and preservatives. If you’re not getting it, all these spells ‘unhealthy’!

Flavoured yoghurt

Yoghurt may be commonly advertised as a solution for weight loss, but flavoured yoghurt actually is packed with artificial colouring, flavours and sugar. For a healthier yoghurt snack, try adding whole fruits with plain yoghurt!

Acai bowls

Many acai bowls out there are high in calories as some of them uses sugary frozen yoghurt as their base instead of whole-fruit smoothies. If you’re particular about this, do ask how it’s being made before consuming!

Dried fruits

You might already know this, but many commercially prepared dried fruits are actually coated with added sugar and preserved using sulfites, one of the most common food allergens!

Diet soda

If the fact that the word ‘diet’ is used with ‘soda’ isn’t a red flag to you already (because it sure sounds real shady to me), diet soda includes artificial sweeteners, is loaded with caramel colour, tooth enamel-eroding carbonation and additives.

I do believe in cheat days and these foods might be something you’re really looking forward to after many days of strict diet so consuming them moderately is perfectly fine. But if you really want to get that healthy diet going, do take some time to research about some of the foods you’re planning to consume so you don’t end up wasting your efforts!
