FL This Or That - Kimchi Soup

FL This Or That - Kimchi Soup

Today, in a new series of FL Kitchen, we have FL This Or That whereby we will try to recreate a dish that was store-bought and get on our colleagues to taste them and guess which was home-cooked and which was store bought! Let’s put our cooking knowledge and skills to the test, shall we? So in the first episode of FL This or That, we tried to recreate kimchi soup (aka kimchi jjigae) and let me share with you our experience!

Firstly, here are the ingredients needed to make this dish:
  • Enoki mushrooms
  • Carrots
  • Fish cake
  • Cabbage
  • Soft tofu
  • Pork belly slices
  • Kimchi
  • GochujanG
Steps:
  1. Boil water in a pot.
  2. Toss in your cabbage, carrots, kimchi and 2-3 tablespoons of gochujang in the boiling water and let it boil for 3-5 minutes until vegetables soften.
  3. Toss in your enoki mushrooms, fish cake, soft tofu and pork belly and let it simmer for 1-2 minutes until pork belly is cooked.
  4. At this step, you can choose to season the stew by adding in some salt, pepper and even sesame oil!
  5. Ta-da! That’s it! Serve while the kimchi soup is hot!
Personally, we felt that this recipe is definitely a must try as it was a super no brainer one. You don’t have to worry about overcooking anything because the longer you let the soup boil, the more flavourful and tasty the kimchi broth will be! Of course, you can feel free to add in seasoning to season the soup to your liking. We added in a tad bit of salt, pepper and sesame oil as we LOVE these flavours together!
