Lucky Foods For CNY 2022!

Lucky Foods For CNY 2022!

Wanna get more HUAT this year? These lucky Chinese New Year foods are said to bring good fortune — a here's look at what they mean.

1. Fish

A whole fish is a traditional New Year's dish in China, and it is meant to bring prosperity for the entire year. The word for "surplus" in Mandarin is a homophone of the word for "fish". There is also an idiom 年年有余 , which means "to have a surplus every year," giving rise to its homophonic pun, or "to have fish every year."

2. Dumpling

Dumplings represent wealth because they resemble Chinese gold ingots, which are oval, boat-shaped gold chunks used as currency in imperial China. To symbolise the end of the old year, families usually wrap their own dumplings and continue wrapping until midnight. Some families will hide a coin in one of the dumplings, and the person who finds it will have a prosperous year.

3. Spring Roll

Spring rolls, which resemble gold bars, are said to bring wealth and good fortune. These deep-fried rolls can be stuffed with a variety of fillings, including pork, bean sprouts, shredded carrots, cabbage, and assorted other vegetables. Thai Wok Restaurant has a vegetarian option!

4. Chicken

A whole chicken is also a symbol of the family, which is why, once cooked, Chinese people first offer the chicken to the ancestors in exchange for blessings and protection.
