How to Chase Away Your Fast Food Blues

Ever since the announcement of the closure of all McDonald’s outlets, I’ve been sitting at my desk every day, regretting my decision to not get an Oreo McFlurry the day before the announcement because I thought that I could just get it another day. How naïve was I then? To the ones who have been in my position, hang in there because today I’ll be giving a few tips on how to chase away your fast food blues! Whether you’re looking for healthier alternatives, or an equally yummy snack to satisfy your fast food cravings, this is for you!
French Fries -> Baked Sweet Potato Fries

One of my favourite snacks, baked sweet potato fries are more nutrient-dense and has a lower glycemic index than regular potato fries. They also have more potassium levels and carotenoids, which relives your body from stroke and high blood pressure. In other words, the baked sweet potato fries are a healthier option to regular fries, but trust me, topped with a pinch of salt and these treats will taste equally amazing. This COVID-19 season is also a perfect time to get your hands moving and try making them yourself!
Ice Cream -> Frozen Yoghurt

The good news is you still can purchase ice cream from the supermarket but please protect yourself and head down only when you need to do grocery shopping (grabbing that tub of ice cream along the way), and avoid going to the supermarket just to get a tub of ice cream! You can also choose to stay in, bond with your family and make your own ice cream according to this recipe!
But for the ones looking for a healthier alternative, frozen Greek yoghurt is definitely the way to go. You may incorporate some frozen bananas or grapes into your frozen yoghurt and drizzle it with some sweet and thick chocolate sauce! A perfect snack to cool down in this sweltering weather.
Burger -> DIY Burger/Portobello Mushroom Burger

Bummed that you can’t get your favourite burger from Mcdonald’s? Why not try making your own burger! It’s actually not that difficult, well, according to this recipe.
Portobello mushrooms make great substitutes to bread buns as well! They’re low on carb, big enough to hold the layers of the burger together and the best part is that they taste subtle but earthy, which makes them the next best option to bread buns if you’re looking for an alternative.
I hope that this article will help you chase away, if not suppress your fast food cravings because it’s going to be a long time before we can sink our teeth into them! In the meantime, gather your family and try out some of these recipes together. It’s really a fun way to bond and at the same time relieve all the stress from working from home!
