How To Keep Your Food Fresh Longer
Most of us are still working from home and will have more food stored at home. It is important that we know how to store our groceries well so that our food will not spoil that easily. Let us take a look at some food storage hacks to keep our food fresh longer.
Avocados

If your avocados aren’t quite ripe, store your avocados at room temperature to speed up the process! Once ripe, place them in your refrigerator for 2-3 days to keep them fresh. If you want to consume half an avocado and save the other half for later, remember to keep the seed on and sprinkle the flesh with lime or lemon juice, cover tightly with plastic wrap and put it back into the fridge.
Bananas

Green, unripe bananas should be placed at room temperature for them to ripen. When your bananas are ripe and turn yellow, you can continue placing them at room temperature but cover the stalk with aluminium foil to slow down the ripening process, keeping bananas fresh longer. Unfinished bananas should be stored in the fridge and placed in a sealed container, or covered with plastic wrap. Try to keep the peel intact so as to expose the least amount of the flesh to air.
Strawberries

You can keep your strawberries fresh up to two weeks when you give them a vinegar bath, which helps to remove harmful bacteria. Simply fill a bowl with vinegar and water (more water than vinegar and both combined is just enough to cover the strawberries) and place strawberries into the bowl, letting them soak for about five minutes. Rinse strawberries with water and dry them with a paper towel. Line your storage container with a paper towel and place the strawberries inside. Make sure they are all dry before closing the lid. Lastly, store them in the fridge.
Alternatively, for it to remain fresh for at least a week, you can cut off the stems without washing and spread them out in your storage container on top of a paper towel. Store them in the fridge afterwards.
Meat

For those who do not have a vacuum sealer machine, here’s how to store meat. Place meat individually in a zip-lock bag and seal it, leaving ⅓ of it open. Prepare cold water in a bowl and place the bag ⅔ in, with the seal unexposed. Gently push the bag against the side of the bowl and seal the whole bag. Your meat should be vacuum-sealed and place it in the freezer afterwards! You can also invest in a vacuum sealer machine if you want to.
If you are someone who does not have much food stored at home because you prefer ordering food instead, I will recommend you to order from FoodLine.sg. There’s a variety of food you can find there that can settle your week’s meal. Stop waiting, start ordering!
