Impossible Burger vs Beyond Meat

Plant-based meat has taken the world by storm, with both Impossible Burger and Beyond Meat being the top two contenders in the market. Both companies have gone above and beyond to seemingly accomplish the impossible: make meatless meat accurately mimic the texture of real meat.
There has been an increasing number of individuals who are choosing to consume less meat for various reasons, like personal health reasons and the negative environmental impacts. Both Impossible and Beyond are major brands dominating the meatless meat market, so we have broken down the need-to-know details of the most popular faux meat options on the market.

The Impossible Burger contains:
The main ingredient is soy protein concentrate, which is heavily processed. This means that many of the benefits of the raw ingredient are lost. For instance, raw soybeans contain calcium, vitamin C, vitamin B-6, iron, and magnesium. However, Impossible fortifies its burgers with vitamins and minerals, likely to make up for the lost nutrients during processing.
Beyond Burger / Beyond Meat
The Beyond Burger contains:
Both burgers are pretty similar, except Beyond uses pea protein instead of soy protein. To add on, Beyond’s burger does not contain soy leghemoglobin (Impossible’s key ingredient that makes the burger “bleed”). Beyond uses beet extract to make its patty red.
What do they taste like?
The Impossible burger tasted a lot more similar to beef than the Beyond patty. The Impossible patty was charred on the outside with a pink center, just like beef! It also had a juicier patty as compared to the Beyond burger.
The Beyond burger was not as “beef-like”. It had a spongier texture and the flavour of veggie proteins was more evident. People who tried it have described it as having a somewhat coconut-y aftertaste.

Final verdict
All in all, both burgers were delicious! However, the Beyond patty just did not convince me that it is meant to be a beef substitute and not just another vegan patty.
