To Eat Fruits or to Drink Fruit Juice
Is it the same, drinking fruit juices and eating the whole fruit? I am sure we’ve heard it some point in our lives that it is better to eat the fruit whole than to drink fruit juices.
Do You Know?
Fruit juices are a healthier option when you are craving for some sweet beverages (provided it is fresh and have no additional sugar added).
However, drinking juice is not the best way to get your daily dose of fruit, mainly because fruit juices do not contain lots of fibre if any. Plus, having an adequate amount of fibre in your diet has several health benefits such as the reduced risk of heart disease, diabetes, and constipation. Of course, it also keeps you fuller longer and controls your weight.
Fruit juice holds a more concentrated source of sugars than whole fruit. For instance, there are 12 grams of sugar in a medium orange (65 calories) versus 21 grams in a cup of orange juice (112 calories). Most importantly, the lack of fibre allows your body to absorb the juice’s sugars more rapidly.
A 2013 study found out that the more fruit juice you drink, you will develop a higher risk for type 2 diabetes. And that swapping three fruit juice servings per week for whole fruit can reduce 7 per cent decrease in diabetes risk.

But What If You Really Dislike Eating Fruits Whole?
For starters, you can switch out juicer for a blender instead. Though it may be more tedious to manually remove the core of the apple or the orange peel, using a blender will retain more fibre and it will contain less sugar. And don’t forget! Do not add more sugars to your juice!
Everything you eat or drink, please do it moderately too! Too much of anything will have opposite effects!
Now, let’s get you some delicious food to go with your freshly cut fruit platter or blended juice!
