Grain- You Did It Again!

We had generally great experiences catering from Grain, though we were a tad disappointed with their Xmas 2025 mini buffet. Still, based on old times sake, I catered from Grain again for my son’s birthday barely a month later. And I am back to ... More gushing mode again, Grain did not disappoint! Catered food are usually boring and soggy and unappetizing, but Grain is not any of these things. Their menu is always unique, and consists of nutritious ingredients instead of the usual empty carbs that pepper the majority of catering menus. Grain also prepares their food in such a way that everything looks colorful and appetizing and tastes good by the time the food is served. Everyone went for multiple servings, and the generous portions allowed this. It’s a challenge for me to name my favorite dishes but since I’m not a meat eater, I’d cast my vote for the very fragrant basil tea rice, which has a very interesting texture and is fun to chew. As well as the Shakshouka, which interestingly enough most would associate with breakfast/ brunch but it was very popular for our dinner party. Keep it up Grain!

I wrote a rave review for Grain’s Xmas mini buffet 2024. We loved it so much there was no discussion necessary before we decided on catering from Grain again this Xmas. Unfortunately the quality was not sustained. Most of the dishes were ... More satisfactory although nothing to write home about. The beef dish was very disappointing though, in both quantity and quality. Price wise, Grain has always been more premium, and we certainly felt it was justified last year. Not so sure about this year.

Reliable caterer with a unique menu

Booking process was very smooth, caterer contacted me in a timely manner after my booking through foodline, and also made sure I was periodically updated.

Delivery was on time. Delivery personnel spoke mandarin which I’m fluent in. He insisted ... More he had arrived (no he hadn’t), and that the unit number I had provided based on my zip code was wrong. I had to reinterate several times that my unit number is indeed no.4 as I had stated and there are few properties on my street so our unit number only goes up to 14 or so and not the 60+ he insisted my unit number should be based on zip code. Finally he grasped my explanation and got the food to me without additional drama.

Adequate cutlery, tablecloth etc provided. Except napkins, which was too paltry we just used our own supply.

Food quality wise not much to write home about. I had booked with them mainly because we have several yam paste lovers and they have kway teow instead of the usual boring fried rice and beehoon. The yam paste was declared sickeningly sweet even by the dedicated sweet-tooths in our clan. It was mostly left untouched. The only popular dish was the fish and it was quickly finished up. The mushrooms that came with the kailan had a very weird taste.

Feedback by guests were generally good. I ordered for delivery at 5.30pm, food arrived around 4.45pm. Food was well packed. The Cheesy Prata was initially soggy and greasy and flat and no one wanted it. Then we put them in the airfryer ourselves and ... More they puffed up and became crispy and became very popular. Food portions were generous, especially the fried rice, though a few guests commented that it was too dry. Overall, happy enough with this caterer and a few guests asked for caterer's details.
